Please

Kelly started with Luke and each of our children teaching them to sign some simple words before they could speak. The sign for please is rubbing you chest in a circular motion. Kelly would be in the kitchen and attempting to open a candy as quietly as possible, but Luke would invariably come around the corner with his modified version of rubbing his little hand on his hip in a quick jog.

My 14 Birthday

My 14 birthday was very memorable, first because my birthday falls on the 14th of November, but more so because of what happened as I was riding home on the school bus. We drove by one of the fields my family farmed. The field was across a set of very high, very steep, rail road tracks. The chaff from the corn had built up of our combine, a spark from somewhere caught the chaff on fire. My dad got out safely but when the fire department arrived the wheel base was far enough apart that it couldn't cross the tracks, we had to watch the combine burn completely up. Because my father was always willing to help anyone that needed it, our friends jumped in and helped us finish the harvest even thought they had their harvest as well.
